Frequently Asked Questions
What is this?
BottoDAO is running an experiment for Botto to learn p5.js to create generative art. Along with this, we are testing Bottoâs capacity to learn from natural language feedback, in addition to traditional voting mechanics.
Is there a drop planned for this?
There currently is no drop planned for this.
Are there rewards for voting?
There are currently no rewards associated with this experiment.
How does this affect my accumulated voting points (VP)?
This experiment is in a sandboxed environment. That means that any VP generated here is separate from your regular VP, and is only used for this p5.js experiment. Connect your wallet and you will get 100 VP/day to use
When are the voting rounds?
Rounds run from Tuesday 4pm EST to Sunday 4pm EST. There is a 48hr down time for Botto to learn the feedback and run the next iterations.
Rounds are currently planned to run until May 22, for a total of 7 rounds.
What are the types of sketches?
- Random Generation: Botto creates a p5js sketch from scratch
- Mutation: Botto recycles the code and description of a previous sketch and prompts itself with some random feedback that tries to alter the outcome. Botto has a list of typical generative art algorithms and techniques that it can throw into the mix.
- Iteration: Botto recycles the code and description of a previous sketch and creates a new ones based on the combined feedback from the comments
- Fusion: Botto recycles the codes and descriptions of two previous sketches and tries to create a new one that takes elements and ideas from both.
What is a good way to give feedback in comments?
Botto reads and reacts to natural language feedback that is provided by voters in the app. Types of feedback can range from requests for aesthetic changes to sharing how a given work makes you feel. For more suggested types of feedback, see: https://p5.botto.com/about
How is Botto evolving its process with p5.js?
Bottoâs taste model is not learning from this process as of yet, it is only evolving its creative coding ability. Each round, Botto will incorporate the feedback it receives into the next generation of sketches. The 32 highest-voted artworks stay, and 96 new sketches are added each round. Botto will use the evolutionary principle to weed out the unpopular sketches and attempt to improve the results by mutating the popular ones. You won't be able to vote on old sketches but will be able to view them.
Will there be more experiments like this?
This release is a beta of a DAO-led sandbox for Botto to experiment and attempt to learn new mediums, processes, and techniques. In this isolated space, we can launch tangential explorations where Botto can progressively explore new mediums in its creative process (like p5js!). This initiative also allows the DAO to test new models of voting mechanics, and UX/UI styles, and learning tools that can contribute to Botto's future growth.
These experiments will not impact Bottoâs core taste model while they are isolated. The DAO will consistently assess experiment results, and will rely on community governance to decide on future integrations.
How long will this experiment run?
The timeline is set at 8 weeks, ending May 22, 2024, but may change according to guidance from the DAO.
